The three-day meeting of the "Heart of Europe" program, implemented within the framework of the Europe for Citizens 2014-2020 Community Initiative, was held with great success by the Municipality of Larissa and took place from 20 to 22 June 2018 with the participation of 40 representatives from 9 European bodies.
The program aims to create a network of cultural points (Heart points) that through art, artistic play, dialogue and volunteering will promote solidarity, peace and acceptance, enhancing active citizenship for to overcome xenophobia and stigmatization.
For this purpose, and within the framework of the three-day workshop, an experiential workshop was developed to develop a methodology for planning cultural tourism actions, a seminar on the exchange of good practices on the sustainable use of cultural heritage and an open discussion on the use of culture and the arts for tackling phenomena of xenophobia, discrimination and social exclusion.
In addition, the participants had the opportunity to tour the Peneus Festival and participate in the Action Painting action organized by the Cultural Clubs of the Municipality of Larissa as well as in the creation of commemorations from Peneos of another era organized by the Folklore Museum of Larissa.
Finally, on the last day of the meeting, a series of short films on the solidarity of the countries and the fight against all kinds of discrimination took place at the Municipal Council of Larissa, followed by the delivery of commemorative plaques by the Deputy Mayor of Technical Works, Infrastructure and Civil Protection, Mr. Giorgos Soultis to the participating partners.
